A letter from the President of Standing Committee

People of the Diocese of Utah,
With gratitude for God’s goodness and their hard work of discernment, the Nominating Committee will very soon offer a slate of candidates for the 12th Bishop of Utah. This Committee is hosting a retreat of semi-finalists Jan 11-14 in Salt Lake City. After this retreat the names of 3-5 candidates will be forwarded to the Standing Committee for their approval at a meeting on Jan 25.
The Standing Committee will announce these candidates to the Diocese in a special video on Friday, January 28 at 7 pm. At this time, we will get our first glimpse of who God has called to discern along with us these past months.
The Transition Committee is working on ways to get to know these candidates better. A Meet and Greet will take place April 4-6 when the candidates can travel around the Diocese and we can meet each other. On April 30, one of these candidates will be elected, God willing, and on September 17 we will gather to witness our next bishop’s consecration.
In the meantime, pay attention to your email and your parish newsletter for more information on the link to the announcement of the finalists. Watch the website utahbishopsearch.org for details about the Meet and Greet.
Please join the Standing Committee in giving thanks to those who have been working so hard on behalf of the people and the mission of the Diocese in this effort. Continue to pray for the Nominating Committee and semi-finalists and their retreat and for the Transition Committee as they work out the many details of the months ahead. Pray for each other, that we may truly walk God’s way of love together, doing God’s will in the Diocese of Utah.
May God bless this holy work we do to God’s glory.
The Rev. Lyn Zill Briggs
President, Standing Committee
